Fair Haven is known as the Slate Center of the Nation. The first quarries opened here in the mid 1800s, heralding the rise of an industry that continues to prosper today. Fair Haven is a lovely picturesque town, featuring one of the largest town commons in the state in the center of the village. The green is host to several events during the year, including Spring Fling, a summer concert series, weekend auction events, and the much-anticipated annual AppleFest in the fall.
The town is within a short drive to many favorite destinations, including Lake Bomoseen in neighboring Castleton and Lake St. Catherine in Poultney, with both state parks featuring lots of boating, camping, hiking, and wildlife-viewing opportunities. During the winter months, there are lots of trails close by for cross-country skiing or snowmobiling. The Killington and Pico ski resorts are just a 30-45 minute drive east on Route 4, offering some of the best downhill skiing and snowboarding trails in the state.
